European Heritage Days at the Ascenseur à Bateaux des Fontinettes
In celebration of the European Heritage Days, the Fontinettes Boat Lift opens its doors for two days of discovery, history, and entertainment. Located in the heart of French industrial heritage, this unique structure invites you on a journey through time and fascinating engineering mechanisms. The Lift will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 1 PM and from 2 PM to 6 PM. Here’s the program of activities for September 21st and 22nd, 2024!
Program of Visits and Activities
1. Classic Guided Tour - 2:30 PM
Discover the secrets of the Fontinettes Boat Lift, a true gem of industrial architecture. This guided tour will take you back in time to relive the history of this unique French monument. You will learn about its essential role in river transport over the centuries, as well as the technical feats that enabled its construction.
2. Theatrical Tour - 4:00 PM
Embark on an immersive adventure aboard the "Suzel" with the eccentric Marcelle, a boatwoman with a strong personality! In August 1967, the boat lift is about to close its doors, and Marcelle’s boat is the last to cross this iconic elevation. This theatrical tour will transport you to a bygone era through anecdotes, historical explanations, and a unique discovery of daily life on a Freycinet barge. An experience not to be missed!
3. Board Games Workshop in the Multipurpose Room - All Day
Both young and old can join in board games workshops in the multipurpose room. Enjoy a moment of relaxation and conviviality with family or friends while experiencing the unique ambiance of the site.
4. Self-Guided Tour with Audioguide - All Day
For those who prefer to explore at their own pace, a self-guided tour with an audioguide is available during opening hours. This tour will allow you to discover the fascinating history of the Fontinettes Boat Lift, its engineering secrets, and its crucial role in the development of river transport in France.
